Welcome to Garth
Garth — Gwent Arts in Health — is a charity that aims to promote and develop an arts and health programme for the patients and general public in healthcare and community settings throughout the Aneurin Bevan Health Board area.
There is a long history of the visual arts in Gwent hospitals. The Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport was one of the first hospitals in the UK to develop a long-term art in residency programme which ran in the 1980s and 1990s.
Garth was founded to ensure that the benefits of creative programmes within healthcare settings could be developed across all the hospitals and health facilities in the Gwent area.
The importance of the arts to health and wellbeing extends to all areas of family and social life. We are now developing relationships with local authorities and other organisations to extend our programme beyond hospital settings into the wider community.
