The Brynmawr Arts & Crafts Society was formed in July 1987 by local townspeople. Originally the Society met once a month for a presentation or demo that was arts or crafts related. In addition, the Society organised an annual Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Brynmawr for artists and craftspeople in the local area.
The format has changed a little over the 32 years and the Society now organises three workshops during the year between April and October. These are free to members and also open to guests for a small fee. The workshops are held in Brynmawr LAC, usually on a Thursday afternoon, for three hours.
The Annual Exhibition continues to take place in August each year for a week in the local primary school hall in Brynmawr. This year’s exhibition had almost 100 framed paintings hung on display and 14 craft tables with everything from knitted slippers to ceramic sheep. We allow non-members to take part also.
We work closely with the local art clubs of Ebbw Fach (Brynmawr) and Creative Minds (Blaina). These clubs provide weekly sessions for painting, some tutored, some group learning, which the Society can’t provide.
If you are interested in any of the artworks or would like further information about the Society, please contact Peter Simms by text: 07946 532555 or email bengol90@yahoo.com
This is the 65th show in a series of exhibitions in and around Nevill Hall Hospital, organised by Gwent Arts in Health. Garth is a local charity that aims to help realise the potential of the arts in promoting health and wellbeing.
